Workshops

Continuing our tradition, Computing Frontiers 2025 will feature co-located workshops and special sessions.

Submission of papers to workshops will be handled separately from the main conference. However, please note that registration and no-show policies are aligned with the main conference: at least one full registration and physical attendance are required for each paper. Please refer to the websites of the workshops for submission deadlines and more details.

3rd Open-Source Hardware Workshop (OSHW25)

Aim and scope:

The workshop aims to bring together researchers and practitioners in computer architecture, electrical engineering, and computer science to discuss and share their latest research and developments in open-source hardware and related open-source software. We welcome submissions on a wide range of topics, including but not limited to:

  1. Design/implementation based on open-source processors, memory systems, and I/O devices
  2. CAD tools and methodologies for hardware design based on open-source
  3. Embedded systems and IoT devices based on open-source
  4. PCB, FPGA, and ASIC design and fabrication based on open-source
  5. Firmware and software for embedded systems based on open-source
  6. Compilers and frameworks based on open-source
  7. Test and Verification frameworks for hardware based on open-source
  8. Power and Energy-Efficient systems based on open-source
  9. Hardware security and trust in open-source systems

Sustainable Computing Workshop (SCW25)

Aim and scope:

  1. Impact assessment or life cycle analysis (LCA) of computing systems and technologies
  2. Novel methods and tools for systems ecodesign
  3. Computing systems for sustainability
  4. Sustainable computing technologies and architectures

Submissions may cover one or several of the three sustainability pillars: environmental, economic and social.

Malicious Software and Hardware in Internet of Things (MALIOT25)

Aim and scope:

Cyber-physical and smart embedded systems, already highly networked, will be even more connected in the near future to form the Internet of Things, handling large amount of private and safety critical data. The pervasive diffusion of these devices will create several threats to privacy and could open new possibilities for attackers, since the security of even large portions of the Internet of Things could be harmed by compromising a reduced number of components. The possibility of securely updating devices should be guaranteed and it should be possible to verify and assert the root of trust of components. With respect to this context we expect contributions in different areas of security in Internet of Things. Topics of the workshop include but are not limit to:

  1. Malicious firmware design and detection
  2. Malware in Internet of Things applications
  3. Hardware root of trust
  4. Privacy issues of smart-home systems and complex systems
  5. Hardware Trojans and their effects on systems
  6. Hardware authentication and IP protection
  7. Secure communication and key-management
  8. Implementation attacks and countermeasures
  9. Emerging threats and attack vectors in the Internet of Things
  10. Supply chain security
  11. Artificial intelligence techniques for malware detection
  12. GDPR-compliant hardware and software design
